Table as Witness-is the first iteration of the Meal Series, an ongoing body of work that began close to home -my own inherited rituals, the version of “home” I partly grew up imagining as much as living. It will expand outward from here.

These paintings hold more than one thing at once. Luxury and darkness. Humor and anger. Celebration and grief. What’s shown and what’s hidden beneath a perfectly composed surface. Not one canceling the other, but both true at the same table, in the same hour.

There is a sense throughout of a moment caught mid-motion, something just finished or about to happen. Square canvases, diagonals, shadows in their own quiet palette -the ‘mellanrum/inbetween’ showing itself in what’s lit and what’s left in the color of the shadows.

In a way, this show is my own coming to the table '-the first time this particular visual voice has been laid out, glass and fork included.

I work across oil painting, iPad drawing, and printmaking, sustaining my studio practice alongside my full-time career. My work moves through mellanrum -inbetween spaces- shaped by a multicultural background spanning several continents and a Fine Arts education from Concordia University and the Art Students League.
